Locate the Console port on your HP Procurve Switch\u00a0and plug the console cable into the port, It\u2019s usually located at the front of the device under the logo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"687\" height=\"694\" class=\"wp-image-3714\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image007-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image007\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" class=\"wp-image-3715\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image005-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image005\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2:<\/strong>\u00a0Connect the USB cable into your computer\/laptop and launch\u00a0<strong>\u201cDevice Manager\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Verify which COM Port the cable has picked up and make a note of the port number. In this instance the Serial to USB has picked up COM3. (If you have purchased a new Serial to USB adapter you will need to install the drivers before you can see the device listed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"791\" height=\"577\" class=\"wp-image-3716\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image009-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Launch Putty or any other terminal emulation software, Tick the\u00a0<strong>\u201cSerial\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0connection type and enter the COM number in the serial line field. Leave the default connection speed of\u00a0<strong>\u201c9600\u201d<\/strong>. Click\u00a0<strong>\u201cOpen\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"466\" height=\"449\" class=\"wp-image-3717\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image011-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Putty will display the connection status, Hit\u00a0<strong>\u201cEnter\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"675\" height=\"95\" class=\"wp-image-3718\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image013-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image013\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Device information will be displayed such as the Switch Make and Model number. If the user has a warning banner setup it will also be presented.\u00a0 Hit\u00a0<strong>\u201cEnter\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"675\" height=\"425\" class=\"wp-image-3719\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image015-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image015\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>3:<\/strong>\u00a0Enter the Device Username\/Password<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"673\" height=\"88\" class=\"wp-image-3720\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image017-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image017\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the user has authenticated with the device it will display the device hostname followed by\u00a0<strong>\u201c&gt;\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0this indicates the device is in\u00a0<strong>\u201cUser mode\u201d<\/strong>. User mode is used to view limited information about the device, therefore you will not be able to make any configuration changes in this mode.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"675\" height=\"95\" class=\"wp-image-3721\" src=\"https:\/\/jay-miah.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image019-1.jpeg\" alt=\"image019\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To gain further privileges and have the capacity to make configuration changes you must enter\u00a0<strong>\u201cPrivileged mode\u201d<\/strong>.
